Mr. Ruben J. Oakes Jr., 75, of 600 Main Street, Danville, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021 at his residence.
He was born December 31, 1945 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Rueben Oakes, Sr., and the late Minister Mattie Giggetts Oakes Stone. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother and four sisters.
He was a member of St. Paul Outreach Center in Chatham, VA, and was a retired Medical Transport driver.
Ruben is survived by his children, Brenda Oakes, Chesterfield, VA, and Gene Oakes, of Maryland; two brothers, Benjamin (Lisa), of Chatham, VA, and Kevin Stone, of Texas; four sisters, Mary Robinson, Chatham, VA, Mary Pannell, Roanoke, VA, Castello Walton ( Floyd), Providence, NC, and Jackie Puryear (Darryl), Maryland, his step-father, Sambo Stone; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be Friday, March 19, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home by Rev. Hubert Pannell.
Viewing will be one hour prior to the service.
The family is at the residence of his sister, Ms. Mary Robinson, 1249 Beverly Heights Road, Chatham.
Due to COVID-19, we ask that you follow all rules. Masks are required at all services.
