Marion Tarpley

Mrs. Marion T. Tarpley, 89, of 1501 County Road, Chatham, Virginia, departed this life Monday, June 2, 2025 in Guggenheimer Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She was born April 21, 1936 in Pittsylvania County.  She was the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Ethel Jones Swanson. She was married to James Lee Tarpley, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Cornell Sharperson and four brothers, Henry, Claude, Conrad and James Swanson.

She was a member Union Hall Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Choir.  She was employed by Pittsylvania County School System.

She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories two sons; J. Elton Tarpley of Chatham, VA and Eric D. Tarpley of Gulfport, MS; two daughters, Sandra L. Tarpley of Gretna, VA and M. Michelle Tarpley of Jamestown, NC; two grandsons, Terrell Wilson of Chatham, VA and Quincy Wilson of Gretna, VA; a granddaughter, Sharnice Tarpley Nunnally (Mario); two great-granddaughters, Ava and Brooklyn; two sisters, Corlean Hughes and Pearl Swanson both of Danville, VA; two family members on her late husband's side, Rev. William H. Tarpley (Lena) and Emily Tarpley Johnson , (Alan); a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from Union Hall Baptist Church with Pastor Leroy Thomas, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 7, 2025 4-6 p.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home.
