Mr. Hiawatha Barksdale, 64, of 1259 Beverly Heights Road, Chatham, Virginia, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his residence.
He was born August 17, 1952 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Stokley Martin and the late Virginia Barksdale Martin. He was married to Clara Barksdale, who survives.
He was a member of New Truevine Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was employed by Oak Grove Lodge Nursing Home.
A sister, Queen Harris, predeceased him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Anthony Barley (Rhonda), of Redford, MI; two daughters, Katherine E. Barley, of Chatham, VA, and Avis M. Barksdale, of Richmond, VA; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; 3 brothers, Cheyenne Martin, Harvey Martin, both of Chatham, VA, and Larry Martin, of Danville, VA; two sisters, Doris Barksdale, of Chatham, VA, and Constance Martin, of Danville, VA; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral service for Mr. Barksdale will be conducted Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home by Bishop Theodore Jones Jr. Burial will be in Hillcrest Burial Park, Chatham, VA.
Viewing will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6-7 p.m.
