Henry Scates

Mr. Henry P. Scates, 90, of 2892 Irish Road, Chatham, Virginia entered into a peaceful rest Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at his residence.

He was born May 29, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Hobart and Sylvia Emmerson Scates. He was married to Louise Scates, who survives.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was a member of Hopel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as President of the Usher Board for 25 years, Chairman of the Trustee Board, and a member of the Male Chorus.

In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by a son; Henry Scates, Jr. (Benita) of Reidsville, NC; two daughters, Sharon Scates-Hodge (William) of Willow Springs, NC and Sandy Scates of Danville, VA; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great-greatgrandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and a beloved puppy, Vegas.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from Hopel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Tarpley, Eulogist. Interment with military rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
