Mrs. Helen Averett Adams (Cookie), 69, of 281 William Drive, Danville, Virginia passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at her residence.
She was born July 14, 1947 in Pittsylvania County; she was the daughter of the late George and Pearl Wilson Averett. She was married to William G. Adams, who survives.
Helen was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, a member of the Mother❜s Board, Usher Board, Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teacher. She was former trustee of Pittsylvania County Public Liberians, Treasurer of Dan River Blairs Civic League, a member of Brilliant Stars Divine order of Tents and several singing groups.
She was educated in Pittsylvania County school system and received her AAS degree from DCC. She was retired from Pittsylvania County Community Action Agency.
She was predeceased by seven siblings, George, Charles, Herman, Lawrence, Margaret Averett and Carolyn
Miller, and Arlene Gunn.
Survivors include her husband of the residence, two sons, Corey Adams (Chantel), of Fort Lee, VA and Herman Adams (Kristin), of Gainesville, FL; two daughters, Torya Adams, of Danville, VA, and Arlene Manning (Antoine), of Charlotte, NC; four brothers, Percy L. and James Averett, both of Sharpetown, NJ, Eric Averett and Roy Averett, both of Danville, VA; one sister, Pamela Averett, of Danville, VA; a step daughter, Shery Henry; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Mrs. Adams will be Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Clarence McLaughlin. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be Monday from 4-7 p.m., the family will be present from 6-7 p.m. from the Chapel.
