Mrs. Elma Whitehead Hartridge, 78, of 9141 Halifax Rd., Java, Virginia departed this life on Monday Sept. 10, 2018 at the residence.
She was born May 18, 1940 in Java, Virginia to the late Elijah and Chessie Waller Whitehead. She was married to the late Clyde Hartridge.
Mrs. Hartridge was a member of the Shockoe Baptist Church, a member of the Usher Board and a homemaker.
Survivors include, one daughter Rochelle Younger (Major) of Gretna, Va., two sons Clyde Hartridge of Java, VA., Donald Whitehead of Baltimore, Md., a granddaughter, Kerchelle Hartridge, two sisters Odella Lanier, of Java, Va., Rosa Jones (Hosea) of Chatham, Va., two step sisters Elna Witcher of Chatham, Va., and Betty Jean Walker (Bobby) of Blairs, Va.
Mrs. Hartridge was preceded in death by one daughter Seneca Lawrence; three brothers, Latene, Elijah, and Thomas Whitehead; one sister Helen W. Jones.
Funeral service will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. from Shockoe Baptist Church by Rev. Antonel Myler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be Thursday, September 13, 2018, 4-7:00 P.M from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home.
