David A. Coles

Mr. David Arthur Coles (Rabbit), 71, of 205 Little Cherrystone Lane departed this life May 20, 2024 at his residence.

He was born November 25, 1952 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late David H. and Geneva B. Coles. He was also predeceased by a son, David D. Coles.

He was a member of Cherrystone Baptist Church and a member of the Usher Board. He was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company.

Survivors include a daughter, Denise Garland, of Danville, VA; a step daughter, Stacy Johnson, of South Carolina; a son, Marcus Coles, of New York; five sisters, Lois Coles, Arkie Fitzgerald, Nancy Fitzgerald, Jacqueline Coles and Dorothy Noel (Pierre) all of New York; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two devoted friends, Doris Garland, of Danville, and Rosa Stone, of Chatham; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; Special recognition to Dale L. Jones and Michael McLaughlin. 

Funeral service for Mr. Coles will be conducted Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from Cherrystone Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Forrest, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home. A viewing will be one hour prior to service at the church.
