Nannie Hodnett

Mrs. Nannie Fitzgerald-Hodnett, 88, of 2376 Strawberry Rd. Chatham, VA departed this life on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 in Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 13, 1935 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of the late James Edward and Aurelia Howard Chattin. She was first married to Wilmon Fitzgerald and later Joseph Hodnett both predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her children, Leon Fitzgerald and Ester Mae Fitzgerald, her brothers, Ralph and Stewart Chattin and sisters, Shirley Byrd, Alice Godwin, and Martha Akers.

She was a member of Wilson Memorial Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess.

She leaves to cherish her memories; a devoted daughter, Juanita Myers (Maurice) of Chatham, VA; two sons, Douglas Fitzgerald of Chatham, VA and Ray Charles Fitzgerald (Rhonda) of Martinsville, VA; three sisters, Diane Walters (Raymond) of Danville, VA, Lillie Johnson (Michael) of Philadelphia, PA and Deborah Shaffer of Clifton, TN; seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony McClary, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Burial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
