Mr. Charlie L. Vaden, 94, of 2764 Motleys Mill Road, Chatham, Virginia, departed this life Saturday, April 13, 2024 in Gretna Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born January 16, 1930 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Charlie and Lena Jones Vaden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae Richardson Vaden. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his son, McDonald “Muchie” Vaden and daughters, Rosa Stephens, Arlita “KiKi” Lovelace and Elaine “Boo” Bennett.
He was a member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church, a member of Shockoe male chorus and served as church custodian until his decline in health.
He attended Pittsylvania Public Schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army and honorably discharged as Corporal. He was retired from Pittsylvania County School System as a bus driver and custodian.
He was the last of his generation.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a son; Charlie Vaden, Jr. (Yvonne) of Halifax, VA; three daughters, Paulena Vaden (Leslie), Denise Motley (Sherman) both of Chatham, VA and Elena Logan (Darrell) of Java, VA; eighteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, a host of great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Antonel A. Myler, Sr. Interment with military rites will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home.
